Around 33 percent of all Xbox consoles have failed to work reliably. The typical reason for these issues are the consoles inability to stay cool. Too much heat is the cause for the blinking 3 red lights error otherwise referred to as the red ring of death.
Another common error is known as the E-74 error. It’s considered to be the same problem as the 3 red lights because overheating is its root cause as well.
What can you do to decrease the likelihood of getting the ring of death? I will discuss 3 different elements of this. They deal with the way that you use your Xbox, general maintenance, and where you use it.
1.) How to use the Xbox 360.
The reason for the overheating issue is that the GPU and CPU generate too much heat. The console’s cooling system inside the unit can’t adequately deal with the excessive heat. The console’s limited internal space is also not ideal for keeping the system cool. Thus, playing games nonstop for too many hours will probably get the console too hot. So turn off your Xbox after gaming for one or two hours.
2.) Proper care.
Your Xbox must be kept dust free. Dust tends to build up in the interior of the console. Use suction to keep the vents free of any dust accumulation. A game disc with dust on it can likewise contaminate your Xbox. Game discs can be kept clean by putting them back in their cases.
3.) Where to use the Xbox 360.
In order for the console to stay cool, you need to run it in a room that isn’t too warm. When it’s hot, keep the air conditioner on. Look out for nearby heat sources such as stoves, direct sunlight, and electronics.
The Xbox should be located in a location with adequate ventilation. You should also consider the consequence of excessive dust. A dusty room invites dust build up on the console’s mother board.
Dust is essentially an insulator that will make cooling much more difficult. Accumulations of dust will also obstruct the required flow of cooling air inside your machine.
At times, overheating will occur in spite of your best efforts. But you should at least try to keep your Xbox working properly.
